The StrengthErg is powered by Concept2's signature flywheel technology, which allows the intensity to be adjusted based on a combination of the damper setting and user effort. The responsive nature of air resistance delivers a variable load depending on the user's strength output.

A lower damper setting, or less air resistance, produces a lighter feel when pushing or pulling. A higher damper setting, or more air resistance, produces a heavier feel when pushing or pulling.

Benefits of Responsive Resistance

Another advantage of responsive resistance is that as your strength varies at different points throughout a movement, the resistance reacts to match it. In traditional training, you are limited to loading the bar with the weight you can handle at your weakest point, which may not be enough to properly challenge your muscles during the strongest part of the movement.
